A California man arrested last year on Interstate 80 in Dallas County with more than 400 pounds of marijuana products in his vehicle has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.

Jamar Lawrence Daniels, 33, was driving east on I-80 just before 2 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2020, when he was stopped by the Iowa State Patrol. A trooper found 173 pounds of high-grade marijuana and 258 pounds of edibles with THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana.

Dallas County prosecutors dropped state drug charges against Daniels when he was indicted in federal court in February 2020 on a charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. He agreed in January to plead guilty to the charge and was sentenced on Thursday.

Along with the 18-month prison sentence, Daniels was given three years probation after his release.
