Um hello yes. It’s a little approximate b/c you’ll kind of need to go by feel/taste (that’s, uh, what she said??)
12 oz dark chocolate
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup weed-infused coconut oil
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp flaky sea salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 vanilla bean (or some vanilla extract)
1/4 cup toasted shredded coconut
Chop up the chocolate and put it in a heat-proof bowl with 1/2 tsp of the cayenne, 1/2 tsp of the cinnamon, and the vanilla. Heat the cream and weed oil over the stove until just before it starts to boil, then pour the mixture over the chocolate and stir till it’s all combined (it takes awhile because of the oil, but persevere! if the mixture cools off too much, you can zap it for 15-second intervals in the microwave). Once it’s combined, chill it in the fridge for about an hour, till it’s solid. In the meantime, combine the toasted coconut with the rest of the cayenne and cinnamon and the sea salt. Scoop out the chocolate mixture with a spoon and form each spoonful into a ball by rolling it between your hands (then roll in the spicy coconut mixture). Place the finished truffles on a cold plate/baking sheet/something, chill in the fridge for a bit, eat, get baked.
Perfect for freezing midwestern winters but probably pretty excellent everywhere. 🙂

When it comes to cannabis, you have a multitude of options. One option that’s growing in popularity is edibles. These cannabis-infused foods and drinks provide an alternative to smoking or vaping. They’re more discreet. You don’t have to worry about the negative side-effects associated with smoking. Edibles also come in a wide array of baked goods, candies, chocolates, and more. When most people think of edibles, they tend to associate a better experience with higher milligrams of active cannabinoids. While this may work for some, a 5mg edible could be just as (if not more so) effective.
If you’re new to edibles, starting with too much can have some very undesirable effects. While it’s often recommended that beginners start with 10 to 15mg of active cannabinoids, even this amount could be too much.
Starting with a 5mg edible allows you to work your way up slowly. Rather than starting with too much and having a bad experience, you have more control over finding the right dose for you. You’re more likely to have an enjoyable time and get the most out of your experience.
Keep in mind that if you’re new to edibles, you will need to be patient. Smoking, vaping, and tinctures don’t take long to begin working. Edibles, on the other hand, are processed differently. The cannabinoids must be processed through the liver first. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours before you begin to feel anything. Give yourself time before you try a second dose to avoid consuming too much at once.
If you’re a more experienced user, you may require a higher-dose edible to experience psychoactive effects. If you’re looking to reduce anxiety or calm yourself, however, feeling the high associated with large doses may have the opposite effect. Instead, eating a 5mg edible can help to alleviate anxiety, enable you to relax, or boost your creativity.
What most people enjoy about smaller doses is that you get relief without getting high. You can consume a 5mg edible and not have to worry about the cannabinoids interfering with your daily activities.
Like larger-dose edibles, a 5mg edible provides long-lasting effects. It may take longer to kick in, but the effects can last several hours. As mentioned above, taking a small dose means that you don’t really have to worry about the edible interfering with your day. You can enjoy the effects and still function normally, if not better.
On the other hand, taking a higher-dose edible could produce unwanted effects. Since edibles are longer-lasting, this means you could find yourself dealing with these effects for a while. They will fade, but it takes time. If you do take too much, drink water or juice, close your eyes, and breathe. Even better, keep a bottle of CBD only tincture handy. CBD counteracts the effects of THC and it will bring back some balance.
Consuming large doses of edibles means that you’re likely spending a significant amount of money over time. If you’re consuming 5mg doses, you’ll go through your edibles at a much slower pace. They’ll last longer and you’ll save more money.
There is a wide array of edibles. Whether you enjoy cookies, brownies, candies, chocolate, or infused-beverages, edibles provide you with a discreet and delicious way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis. What’s more, you don’t need a lot. A 5mg edible can be just what you need to get the results you’re looking for.

Edibles, despite the fact that they deliver a potent and often long-lasting stone, are a main entry point to cannabis for many newcomers who might be more adverse to smoking or vaporizing. For comedian, television personality and best-selling author Chelsea Handler, cannabis edibles were a way to promote a healthy sleep pattern. Speaking at marijuana business event Hall of Flowers on Tuesday, Handler also addressed how her cannabis use has helped her cut back on alcohol.
“It’s cut my drinking in half, which, for me, is a sentence I never thought I’d say,” Handler said to a laugh from the audience. “I really want to show people the way. This is healthy, it’s growing from the ground. Let’s all get on board with this, you know, the more the merrier.”
Handler, who is launching her own line of vape pens with NorCal Cannabis Company and “at least one edible brand,” spoke about her personal experiences with cannabis and her business desire to promote a line of products that she could recommend to female friends. Interviewed by Dr. Dina, Handler also spoke candidly about her relationship to cannabis edibles.
“I mean, I’ll always try drugs if they’re in front of me… because I want to be polite,” she said when asked about her experimentation with edibles. “I’m not one of those people who goes crazy, but I’ve been around a lot of those people that do. Usually if I’m too stoned and I can’t handle it, I know to lie down and just go somewhere, you know? I’m not out and about doing that, at least I try not to be.”
Handler said she got started with Kiva blueberries and moved on to gummies before her interest in cannabis drove her to meet with different companies and growers and recognizing, “Oh, this is really just the beginning of an industry.”
From there, Handler said she started getting more educated on the subject matter and sharing that information with others.
“I’ve enabled so many friends, my sisters, who never take cannabis, my niece who had anxiety,” Handler said. “I’ve seen the impact it’s had on people that I care about and I know from experience that when you can impact a small group of people in your life you can impact the world.”
Handler said it was important to normalize the use of cannabis as something that helps people cope with whatever it is they hope to address.
“I’d much prefer to take an edible before I go to bed than a Xanax or a sleeping pill,” she said. “That’s something that I did. I used to take sleeping pills all the time. I don’t do that anymore, you know? I take an edible before I go to bed and once you do that for long enough, you don’t even need an edible to go to bed, you just needed something to get you back to normal life.”
While the Hall of Flowers had an array of edibles on display, below are a few that are crafted with different forms of cannabis to infuse into food: distillate, canna-butter and rosin.
Distillate
This new sublingual is fast-acting, as it is easily absorbed under the tongue. It’s created with distillate, which is cannabis stripped from all waxes and other compounds, and comes in 5 mg THC servings designated by the effects it hopes to stimulate, such as “social” and “focus.” This product is essentially a Listerine breath strip with weed because it has the ability to keep your breath fresh and lighten the mood. Its low dose makes it a great starter edible for newbies.
Canna-Butter
Canna-butter is the OG of the edibles world and cookies are one of the first ways most people consume cannabis. Big Pete’s Treats is a longtime favorite in the cannabis cookies space. Not only to their 10 mg THC offerings get you adequately buzzed, but as a cookie, they also taste moist and delicious. Big Pete’s now also offers a CBD line, which is still a novelty in the cannabis edibles world. Big Pete’s is also making big moves in the cookies space through a collaborative edible with Berner, the mogul behind the Cookies clothing line.
Rosin
These granola clusters are created with rosin, which is made by extractors capturing trichomes using heat and pressure. They come in 10 mg THC servings and include a blend of both indica and sativa flowers, as well as terpenes sourced from other food items. Owner and restaurateur Jeremy Weiss says it’s this combination of full-spectrum rosin blended with the food terpenes that sets these edibles apart. Full-spectrum means that the rosin used in Atlas’s bites still contains the full cannabinoid and terpene profiles.

If you know how to make cannabis tinctures and hash oil, you can turn almost any food into a weed edible. Of all the edibles I’ve tried, my favorite is the cannabis gummy (aka the “Weed Gummy” or “Ganja Gummy”) for a few reasons.
For starters, weed gummies are small, they’re easy to eat, they don’t make a mess, and you can make them in countless flavors. And since they’re made using hash oil, you can make tune their potency to be insanely-high, delicate and subtle, or anywhere in between.
You can sit a cannabis gummy on the counter at room temperature and it won’t melt because it isn’t just Jell-O. That makes these gummies much easier to pack up and take elsewhere since they can last without being refrigerated.
Plus, they’re just plain fun-looking. I mean, look at these while saying “Ganja Gummy” out loud and I bet your day will get 5% better.
Gummies have recently surpassed high-potency weed brownies as my favorite edible. [Edit: It’s my favorite now, too! ~Nebula]
I love being able to make drastic changes to the gummies’ flavor with little effort (more on that in the FAQs toward the end). Plus, people love them! When you make cannabis gummies, they don’t tend to last very long, especially with other people around. I had to call dibs on the 4 in the picture below so Nebula wouldn’t eat them before I got the shot!
I convinced Nebula not to eat these ones so I could take pictures. It was a shaky truce.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that you can’t legally purchase strong cannabis gummies in the state of California. By CA law, any edible has to be delineated with only 10mg per portion. That means that the most potent edibles in CA are the ones you make at home. While the law is a bit backward in my opinion, it does highlight the importance of making your own edibles.
On top of that, you can’t get cannabis gummies in fun shapes at all (by law) if you live in California, Colorado, or Washington. So if you want potent, fun-shaped gummies, it’s all about doing it yourself!
The Magical Butter Machine can take a lot of the work out of making gummies.
I’ve tried many recipes for making gummies, but this recipe (based on the one from the folks who make the Magical Butter Machine) is easily the best one of them all. Big thanks to MagicalButter.com for their great recipe!
Please do not keep your weed gummies in a place where a young person could get their hands on them. They look like regular candy and any kid (or pet) that finds them will likely eat them immediately!
Cannabis gummies are made using hash oil. This makes it so that you get high levels of potency without as much of the strong “weed flavor” that generally accompanies edibles. However, the extract you start with will further increase or decrease that undesirable “green” flavor. There are two main choices when it comes to your starting extract:
Starting with tincture (good method)
Starting with hash oil (best method)
The supply list below makes a relatively small batch of gummies. Once you have your potency and flavor preferences locked in, you can make much bigger batches at once by multiplying the ingredients by 2…or more!
That’s it! If you followed those steps, you now have a bunch of potent weed gummies waiting to be eaten.
If you don’t know your tolerance, eat one gummy (or even half a gummy if you’re new to edibles) and wait for 2.5 hours. That’ll give you enough time to digest the gummy and feel its effects. If it’s not strong enough, you can eat more at once next time. For your next batch, you can make them even stronger by adding more hash oil.
Conversely, if you eat a gummy and the experience is too intense, cut the dose down to 1/2, or even 1/4 the next time. When you make gummies next time, you can use 1/2 or 1/4 of the amount of hash oil in the same recipe.
These gummies will last 2 months in a refrigerator, or a full year in a freezer. That being said, I’ve never tested these limits as these gummies haven’t lasted longer than 7 days in my house.
Yup. It’s a lot of work, but it sure does look neat! Just repeat the instructions above with two visibly different colors of flavored gelatin. In your molds, pour some half full with one color, then finish with another color. You can even have gummies with 3+ colors!
Or, you could separate your gelatin mixture into several parts and use food coloring to make each portion of gelatin look different. There won’t be extra flavors, but you’ll significantly reduce the work needed to get the layered look.
Definitely! In fact, you should try switching out some of the ingredients to see how it affects the taste. Below, I’ve posted the ingredient list for the gummies, but I’ve noted which ingredients can be switched out, and a few tasty options to consider.
I hope this article has helped you to make some delicious, powerful edibles! Have a good one!
